Chapter 9: Uh oh... [Internet Radio in peril = Congress rant from hell!]

[Now playing: 'Your Silent Face' by New Order.]

The StarKnight Captain is mad as hell, and she isn't going to take it anymore.

I was going to do a music post of fun stuff and guilty pleasures, but that was derailed when the thought of 15 July came about--and some new shocking news to go with it.

While it's Ian Curtis' Birthday [R.I.P. '56 - '80], and the night of the Morrissey concert [woohoo!], it's also doomsday in the world of online indie radio. It might be the day the music dies.

I, however, love something called Pandora. [http://pandora.com] Finds me some music similar to New Order [best. band. ever.], as well as some stuff I'd never even heard of. My best friend Pouncer got me into this--as he himself listens to Pandora.

And now, I think this is about to turn into a I-fucking-hate-Congress rant from hell. Fasten your safety belts--this could get ugly very quick.

From http://www.savenetradio.org [go there and help support their cause, and give Congress a rude awakening!!]--

On March 2, 2007 the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), which oversees sound recording royalties paid by Internet radio services, increased Internet radio's royalty burden between 300 and 1200 percent and thereby jeopardized the industry’s future.

At the request of the Recording Industry Association of America, the CRB ignored the fact that Internet radio royalties were already double what satellite radio pays, and multiplied the royalties even further. The 2005 royalty rate was 7/100 of a penny per song streamed; the 2010 rate will be 19/100 of a penny per song streamed. And for small webcasters that were able to calculate royalties as a percentage of revenue in 2005 – that option was quashed by the CRB, so small webcasters’ royalties will grow exponentially!

Before this ruling was handed down, the vast majority of webcasters were barely making ends meet as Internet radio advertising revenue is just beginning to develop. Without a doubt most Internet radio services will go bankrupt and cease webcasting if this royalty rate is not reversed by the Congress, and webcasters’ demise will mean a great loss of creative and diverse radio. Surviving webcasters will need sweetheart licenses that major record labels will be only too happy to offer, so long as the webcaster permits the major label to control the programming and playlist.

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow citizens of Excelsios, if you agree then say it with me now:

That. Fucking. Sucks.

So, it's safe to say that, once again Congress is nothing short of a pain in the ass for America, and the world in general. It's the kind of b.s. that makes me actually ashamed of being an American! It's a disappointment that in the so-called land of the free we're no longer going to be free to listen to the radio online without a bunch of [using a term from one of my friends] fucktards telling us what THEY think we should listen to, what THEY think we should like, what THEY think we should talk about on music blogs and online forums everywhere.

Ever since George W. 'I know what we're doing and what we're doing is right for the country and the world' Bush took over, it's been nothing short of disaster for this country. No joke. And it's a shame, really. He's fucked up our military, he's definitely fucked up our reputation, and now with the help of Congress he's about to fuck up our internet radio. Which means possibly no more Pandora. I wonder if anyone in Congress really gives half a damn anymore.

And then they wonder, why people like me don't give a damn.

Alright Congress, if you're reading this, I hope you're paying attention.

When you stop acting like gods of government. When you allow freedom of religion, and keep it to the heart [which means KEEP THE FUCKING 10 COMMANDMENTS UP!! it doesn't just apply to Jews and Christians but indeed should be simple to understand--love your Creator, love your fellow man; how more simple do I have to make it?]. When you put God back in the Pledge of Allegiance [yes, because of you I no longer pledge allegiance to the Stars and Stripes--I pledge ultimate Allegiance to God; if you don't like it, tough luck]. When you actually LISTEN to your citizens instead of each other's voices bitching about everything else. When you actually help get our military out of Iraq and let THEIR people rule THEIR country with THEIR own Congress and THEIR own Constitution and THEIR own Military and THEIR own soldiers. When you actually try to do something about Darfur and Israel, instead of being absolute ignorant fucks. When you give half a damn about homelessness and make decent jobs and housing available to them. When you stop fucking around with Roe v. Wade and realize, THIS IS THE 21st CENTURY--women can do what they want to; they don't need you to make very important decisions for them. When you make proper sex-education that doesn't promote just abstinence but also contraception--that and, stop the double-standard that fucks up society and praises men while calling women 'whores' [yes, I am not a virgin, and I do NOT approve of being called a whore, how about you?] and other derrogatory names. When you open your eyes and see the big picture, and understand fully what's going on, instead of acting on impulse of your own supposed common-sense. When you stop thinking that this country is all about you and your views and what you think is right. When you finally see the light of truth and allow true freedom to be enjoyed... even if the consequences aren't always proper. When you give decent help and hope to those in prisons and juvenile halls. When you stop funding for war and start funding for cures to deseases, like smallpox, leukemia, cancer and HIV/AIDS. When you open up your fucking eyes to the world and understand that, YOU ARE NOT THE LEADERS OF THE WORLD AND THAT THEREFORE THE WORLD DOES NOT ANSWER TO YOU!!

When you do at least one of these, then I will give a damn.

...I'm just too upset to go further, but I hope this gets the point across.

Citizens of Excelsios, help save internet radio. 'Nuff said, end of.

Until the next round, Cheers. XOXOXO Mike, Crush.

[What goes down in the Underground...]

Mondays start the new workweek. Wednesdays tend to differ, depending on if I need to work or not--usually I'm off, and usually visiting "Uncle" Joseph. Thursdays is the Daughters of the King meeting night. Fridays and Saturdays are normally hectic--never the same drama twice. Sundays = Church day. I update the blog accordingly, with a rant or two, the occasional music post, and sometimes the most random nonsuch.

So stay tuned, because things are fixing to get interesting... and, save your forks--the best is yet to come...
